Glastopedia is an encyclopaedia of information on Glastonbury, past, present and future, in both its aspects, as a market town and as a world recognized Centre of spiritual transformation. There is already a lot of information available on individual websites on specific projects but surprisingly little information about the people involved in starting and running these sites.
In this site, we are using software similar to that used by Wikipedia. This will eventually enable individuals to make contributions direct to the site. In the early stages, we are confining contributions to those made via the present managers of the site- see Contributing
We started this project in 2015 and, initially, put a lot of voluntary effort into building the site. It soon became clear that more time was involved than we had originally envisaged and at least some of the people involved would need to be paid and this would need a reliable monthly income
We felt that the right way to fund the project was that used by Wikipedia – that is not to use advertising on the site but to seek donations and income from other sources.
Little progress was made in establishing the needed sustainable income and in consequence the site was allowed to languish.
We have now started a time-limited research project in order to investigate whether the site can be built into something that is seen to be genuinely useful to the people of Glastonbury and, if so, how such a site can be maintained and sustained.
if you'd like to contribute to this research process, we would be delighted to hear from you – please see Contact.
